Elkton is a small community in the Northeastern corner of Rockingham County, VA. The area is primarily rural and mountains.
Natural attractions include the Shenandoah River and Big Meadows on Skyline Drive. Local industry includes Merck & Co. Inc, Stonewall Plant and Coors Shenandoah Brewery.
The Elkton Volunteer Fire Company was organized in 1927 to provide fire protection to the town of Elkton and the surrounding community. Since then the company has changed a lot. From its humble beginnings with just a Model T Ford and soda extinguishers to today’s fleet of 10 units, the goal of the organization has remained the same, “To save life and property”
Our primary coverage area includes the Town of Elkton and the surrounding area. Our border to the north is is the Rockingham and Page county line. The 3500 block of South Eastside Highway (US Route 340) is the southern border. Going west we cover to the intersection of Spotswood Trial (US Route 33) and East Point Road (State Route 602). Heading east we cover up to the Rockingham and Greene Coutny line on Spotswood Trial, including Skyline Drive from the Loft Mountain Overlook to Big Meadows.
In addition to our primarily coverage area we provide support to various other neighboring areas. On our western and southern border we provide support to the McGaheysville Vol. Fire Co. We also provide mutual aid for the Shenandoah Vol. Fire Co. in the Town of Shenandoah and surrounding area. On occasion we also provide support to other fire companies in the area such as Grottoes Vol. Fire Co., Hose Company Number 4, and the City of Harrisonburg.
